Charity Stuff

Nothing from me this year. Once my apples and pears are ripe, I will take some to the neighbours, stitch and bitch and the congregation.
Limes are going to the pub everytime I pick a bunch. I will have some herbs for them too hopefully in a few months (small town pubs are like a therapy hub for many elderly here, they do more work than they are appreciated for) they are good people.
Thats really all I can manage community wise these days. Nothing else has panned out as sustainable for me. I just dont have the resources or energy.
I have no good ideas for you @Death sorry! I feel like people are probably hanging on to their pennies these days so fundraising could be hard. Tonga is the first thing that comes to mind, but the UK is a long way from the Pacific islands! The other thing I have heard about is the child brides and mothers in African places. Im not sure if there is any charity set up for them, but covid saw the number if pre teen mothers explode over there.

At least with church stuff, you know where the work and money is going, directly into your community. I've come to admire the individual one on one support that some christians choose as their lifes work. One of my ex step dads was like that too, focused on what was in front of him and how he could help just one person (or pet).
I have been too tired to even pick fruit this week. The pears are the last of it. I have a bunch of small green apples too that never got very big so maybe they can go out to the harness race horses. Im doubtful anyone would take them from the flying doctor food stand and dont want to dump crap on them.

Yay! Gardens can be fun. Watering is boring but the trimming and chopping is fun. Especially with power tools 
I've been doing a lot of that in my own garden this week. I should try to start some of those cuttings incase anyone wants any.
We will be allowed back to the hall again soon for meetings. I will probably still stick to attending via zoom, but the car park and garden is going to need a clean up, so thats my next aim too. Not sure when, but I do hope I can help out, and I much prefer pulling weeds to cleaning!

I signed up to some citizen science thing a few months ago. I have tried to do stuff like it before but never got far along the process. Poverty really and truly limits what you can do in these areas. They generally want you to have the latest smart phone and computer access.
Anyway, the uni contacted me yesterday to see if I can do this round and I said yes, but we shall see if I can participate once it actually starts. I know for sure that I have western spotted frogs in my garden. One might have just hitched a ride on a truck and now I have a bunch living in the garden. I want them recorded this far south before the neighbours cats eat them all. I have heaps and heaps of frogs this year. I think they want possum spotting too, which I havent done since I was a kid, but I havent seen any possums in this are at all. Plenty of cats tho!

Well this was a bust. They wanted us to purchase animal tracking cameras at $300-$400 each! Im like, dudes, I cant even print the consent form without an 80km trip to the resource centre. So thats out for me.
Just saw an article on my google feed "mother of 12 cant afford holiday due to cost of living crisis" hawhawhawhahahahhawhahahhahahaahahah with the cost of petrol now, I can barely afford to get to the grocery shop! The petrol card can only be used if I go into a regional center, none of the local diy servos accept it.
My neighbor hasnt been able to afford to feed himself lately. The electric company charged him almost $6000 for a new pole to his house connection. I used to be able to tell the time on this guy, 8am to the general store every morning, 4pm to the pub every night. Then the general store shut down. Then two of his friends died. Now he doesn't go to the pub anymore either. He said there is no one to socialise with anyway.
He went to the doctor yesterday, so thats another $110 down the drain..he NEVER goes to the doctor, he figured if you didnt go, they couldn't find anything wrong with you. So I am really worried about him. I've been cooking him meals with his own garden produce, but that could be contributing to illness, I mean how much chayote can anyone eat!
I haven't done a big fundraising thing for years, and I probably won't be for a while. I do look at them, but it's finding the time not only to do it but to fundraise too. Also I'm more selective about charities now, so many over the last few years have hit the news about abuse and scandals.
I am still sticking to my local community and congregation. So I'm not sure if that counts as charity or life as ministry.
The lady with the orange tree was delighted by the weetbix slice. I will keep in mind that she likes sweets, where as my old man neighbour enjoys hearty man meals.
We had a nice chat and she was trying to pry details out of me. I have a hard time redirecting or straight out lying so she probably knows more about me than I am comfortable with... Especially with the rate of gossip in this town. I need to practice being more of a closed book.
I didnt know what an 80+ year old could have in common with an under 40, but, it turns out she knows all of the people who taught me horseriding. Same circles. I need to pry more details out of her next time! The art of conversation is lost on me lol.
She has said she is very, very lonely since her husband died. Her old dog is on the way out too. I will try and visit them every so often. She lives on the edge of town and told me I should have brought the house next door to her cos it has a stable in the yard! I wish I had known that before!
As the oldies die off, their friends are left behind, but I have to remember the same will happen with me. I have spoken with a 23 year old neighbour but that gap seems even wider than the one between me and the 82 year olds!
