Stoked to see Breath on Netflix. It was one I actually wanted to see at the theatre. The cinematic experience would have truly added to the story. As it is I can taste the sea air just watching it now. Really beautiful work. So far its pretty close to the book, which is in typical Tim Winton style.
I had to pause it to put a certain naughty bunny to bed, its longer movie than I think it took me to actually read the book. I'm not a big Winton fan, but still appreciate him well enough to read most of his stuff. Much of the appeal is in the fact that it is filmed around my teenage haunts and represents the life and type of boys I grew up with. The golden era of aussie life, long gone now, nostalgia well captured in movies like this, and shows like puberty blues. I remember not liking the ending much, but truthfully the beauty of the ocean is enough to make this film worth watching.
The beach they film at is one I have shared pictures of on BB before, the one I burnt me feet at last year! They would not have had to do too much to the sets nor locations, even now not much has changed along those roads, the river and some parts of town. Sando's shack is the ultimate, what a way to live!
