I am trying to avoid real spoilers in this but would love to hear some speculation on this demon.

I googled and came up with this -
In demonology, Belphegor is a demon, and one of the seven princes of Hell, who helps people make discoveries. He seduces people by suggesting to them ingenious inventions that will make them rich. Bishop and witch-hunter Peter Binsfeld believed that Belphegor tempts by means of laziness

And a bit more info here - Belphegor - Demon, Princes of Hell | Mythology.net

Sounds legit for our man so far! One episode in. The accent makes it even better now too hehe.

And Zachariah was an Arch Angel if you ask the internet. I believe that the writers use names, but only sometimes the background, so I'm not gonna theorize too much with this information. It's interesting to read about, though.

The most outrageous (and yet oddly interesting) theory I've heard is that Belphegor is actually Adam, who - after 1200 years in Hell - has become a demon and is pretending to be someone else to get vengeance on his brothers. I thought it was ludicrous - and then I rewatched that scene where he claps Dean on the shoulder and says that Michael probably doesn't hold a grudge and I couldn't help but ponder :D

When I read the description I thought it sounded close to the mark:
Master of the gap - directing from the gates, which I think he mentioned something like that.
He will take the form of one they love
A demon that offers the boys an easy solution with little effort on their part.

Leading them into laziness probably wont happen but I can imagine some idle romanticising of their past this season, for sure.

I think it is cute they take they names instead of inventing new ones, stays true to the show throughout. It doesn't much matter if they strictly stick to it. It does seem the actor loosely based his depiction on a slimey dealing demon :D He needs a white hat to match his glasses.

I wonder if he is a prince of hell or if that is one of the smudges like you say, not all of the arch angels of the bible were arch angels in the show.

I vehemently hope he's not a Prince of Hell. I accept that the SPN bible has a few holes here and there, but that would be too big of a hole for me to swallow. They made it clear, more than once, that there were 4 surviving Princes of Hell left, and they are all dead now, ending with S13's Colonel white-suit dude. They're fairly good at remaining as canon as they can in 15 years, though, so I have hopes they won't disappoint.

Yeah that would make sense since I think they went for 4 arch angels and 4 princes of hell instead of 7 and 7. Someone correct me on that if i got it wrong!

Being just a demon works fine for me, I wonder how long he will be useful to them. Im hyped for the next episode!

Don't know how many Princes of Hell there were originally, but the ones we met were Azazel, Ramiel, Dagon, and Asmodeus. Ramiel purposely told the boys (and the audience) in S12 that there were just him and Dagon and Asmodeus left.
