I've never really liked season 6 but once it gets past all the boring Sam soul stuff, it could have been good.

I enjoy the Cas/Crowly tag team but I wish we had seen more of the battles in heaven and things that were not seen. Its frustrating to be on the edge, not knowing the big picture and when they do show the twist of Crowley being alive and working with Cas, its got less meaning because I dont really see how and what they have been fighting for. Just that the boys did their earthly bit. Its frustrating to watch all this "Trust me" shit when we dont SEE the stakes.

I will have to rewatch this arc again. The whole season gets dragged down by the slow start.

This is my least favorite season (of the first 13 - haven't seen 14 & 15 enough times to add them to my ranking) although some great episodes come from this, like French Mistake, Weekend at Bobby's, and The Man Who Would Be King. But the bigger arcs all fail, IMO. Soulless!Sam takes up too many episodes (the same way Demon!Dean takes up too few) and the Castiel!Villain reveal is handled badly, in so many ways. But I agree that it does have upsides; no season of this show is all bad, some are just infinitely better than others.

Season 6 seemed like a lost its way season. With the original creator gone and Lucifer defeated, there was a problem with what to come up with I think arc-wise. Not the worst season for a show where that happens, admittedly.

With the original creator gone...
Fun fact, but Kripke stayed on as creative director throughout this season, before leaving before S7 began filming. So, even though he wasn't on set like in the first five seasons, he did actually get a say on scripts and stuff like that. It's why I think it's amusing when fans blame his leaving on the show 'getting worse' because he was arguably just as responsible for this season as the previous five.

S6 isn't a bad season I think. It is just not a great one, because it looks like they didn't know where to go after five seasons of Lucifer build-up and resolution.
