Discussion of 2.03 "Bloodlust" - Aired 10/12/06 (CW-US)

Having repaired the Impala, the brothers investigate a series of decapitations and cattle mutilations in Red Lodge, Montana, and find that the last victim was a vampire. They then run into vampire hunter Gordon Walker (Sterling K. Brown), who Ellen warns is dangerous. Sam is later captured by a group of vampires, and their leader Lenore (Amber Benson) reveals to him that they have reformed, feeding only on cattle. After being released unharmed, Sam tries, to no avail, to convince his brother that the vampires should be left alone. However, when they arrive at the vampire's hideout, they find that Gordon has already captured Lenore. They try to convince Gordon not to kill her, but he cuts Sam's arm to tempt the vampire. When Lenore resists the temptation, the brothers overpower him. As Dean ties Gordon up, Sam takes Lenore to safety. Dean later admits to Sam that he was wrong about the vampires.

I had forgotten how much I liked and bought into Benson in this role. I never got, at first fewing, the importance of seeing Dean's face when she refused the blood. This was the first episode where Dean starts to look at things regarding Sam differently, more positively.

Totally agree. I do admire their trying to do something different but... no, these are bad.

I love the look on Sam's face after Dean decapitates a vampire, and the contrast between him and Gordon who totally approves. Sam may be the "stick in the mud" in a way, but I love him, and the difference between him and Dean. Kind of hate Gordon though, but I suppose you're not supposed to like him.

Love Ellen's "Yeah and Hannibal Lecter is a good psychiatrist", when Sam says "I thought you said he was a good hunter."

Agreed on the fangs.

Oh Gordon is creepy, it's like they're introducing the season bad guy, with how he's introduced.

The part story we here about Dean being 16 and killing and burning the body of a creature, while Sam is sat in the back of the impala, really shows the life the had growing up. I like that Dean is able to open up and talk about John's death a bit with Gordon though.

I think Amber is a little over the top in this ep.

Gordon, clearly nuts, I know Dean is dopey - but he is usually street smart (ish). Sam, oh sam, much better you tied up than pretty boy though.

I didnt like deans story in contrast to Gordons as to how they got into hunting, but did show it could go either way!

Amber... well I wasnt a fan in buffy really.

This ep is kind of a snoozer until Amber Benson shows up. Also it's Benny! I mean Eli!

I do like Dean's conflict between the job and Sam and not thinking Sam will understand.

Also like that they are questioning whether everything that's not human is evil.

Oh also, I've been to Red Lodge lol - I wish they actually filmed this show in the locations they're supposed to be in.
