In 1980 Emerson, Manitoba, a young boy named Asa Fox is attacked by a werewolf. Asa is saved by Mary Winchester who has been hunting the werewolf for a long time. Inspired by the meeting, Asa becomes a legendary hunter as he grows up before being killed in 2016. Learning of Asa's death, many hunters go to his wake including Sam, Dean, Mary and Sheriff Jody Mills who had been in a relationship with Asa. Things are awkward between the Winchesters before one of the hunters is found murdered. It is quickly realized that they are dealing with Jael, a sadistic Crossroads Demon who has had a grudge against Asa since Asa exorcised him in 1997. Jael locks Dean out of the house and everyone else in, but Dean is able to get in with help from Reaper Billie in exchange for owing her one. The hunters attempt to locate Jael who kills another hunter before possessing Jody. Jael reveals that he did not kill Asa as believed, rather Asa was killed by his best friend Bucky. While Jael is distracted with Bucky, the hunters manage to exorcise him from Jody and send Jael back to Hell. Bucky reveals that while hunting Jael, he and Asa got into a fight and Bucky accidentally killed him. Bucky framed Jael to protect himself and the hunters promise to spread the true story of Asa's death, disgracing Bucky. The next morning, the three dead hunters are burned while Billie arrives to try and collect Mary who she states doesn't feel like she belongs in the world. Mary refuses and though she decides not to return to the Bunker yet, she agrees to go out for breakfast with her children.

Oh wait. I have seen this one.

I really loved the Hunter funeral/party feel. Really cool to see a few together. And then when hell broke loose, it hit harder, because I had come to like some of them already! The Mary link was cool. And perhaps helping her address and accept the life her boys have because once they had seen evil they couldnt sit back and do nothing, and thats commendable.

I knew we would see Billie again, I dont like her but I dont think I am supposed to. Marys answer was lovely. I am enjoying her character more and more. Nice dynamics between her and the boys too - when they were with their dad it was always a bit tense.

Why doesn't Jody have an anti possession symbol though, I remember Dean having charms of it that she could have worn, if she didn't want a tattoo. Oh and Sam needs to redo his tat too.

Billie is interesting, she's a reaper but she's getting involved in things more, we know that she wants Mary dead, but can't kill her herself. Wonder if the rules thing comes up again and what will happen if she breaks them

Good point. I did think at first she couldnt be possessed! Surely she had safe guards.

Will Death be involved this season if Billie does break the rules? It'd be a real twist if mary stays until the end of the show run :p

We would have to have a new Death surely?

I don't see a part for Mary long term, I think that Billie will take her before the season is over, there's currently no role for her really in the show. We have Jody as that strong older female character and we don't see her that often either, for Mary to be in a lot of episodes they are going to have to give her a plotline.

Yeah I agree she will probably be gone by the end of the season. And it would be a shake up to add her in among all the others (no cas or crowly for a while)

I doubt death will actually come back in any form - but who is enforcing the rules?

I liked this a lot, felt very Clue or something. All trapped in a house, trying to figure out a mystery

I actually felt kind of bad for Bucky, not saying he was right, but still.

I like the idea of Billie getting more involved, because she’s kind of dull, mostly popping in as a plot device. I’d like to see her have more emotions and inner conflicts. The actress is really pretty too, she has a striking presence, they could do more with it.

Solid episode, nice to see Jodie again.
